Guidelines for Student Oral Presentations at BVZS meetings
Student oral presentations are invited for submission at each BVZS Meeting. Presentations should preferably be within the subject matter of the conference, though there are often open sessions, so please contact the BVZS Student Liaison Officer or the BVZS Secretary if you are uncertain. All undergraduate students are eligible for competition for the BVZS Student Oral Presentation Prize and will automatically be entered, unless otherwise requested. The prize carries a cash award of £100 and is kindly sponsored by Vetark (Vetark Professional) and Bayer (Bayer Animal Health) on a rolling basis. The award will be made at close of conference on the Sunday afternoon, at the discretion of the judging panel. The panel will consist of the BVZS President, named sponsor, and two further BVZS Council members. The winner will have their photograph published in the next edition of the BVZS Bulletin. If the winner is not present to receive the award, they will be notified in due course by the Student Liaison Officer and will receive a cheque by post. Such individuals will be required to submit a photo to be published in the BVZS Bulletin report.
-
Presentations should be saved to CD-ROM and either brought to the meeting and handed in at the reception desk for loading onto the computer system, or emailed to the Session Organiser a week before the meeting. The provision of slide projection and/or video may be made by prior arrangement.
-
Presentations should be of 12 minutes duration, allowing 3 minutes for questions, unless otherwise advised by the Session Organiser. You will be informed of the day and time of your presentation once the programme has been finalised.
-
An abstract or short paper of the presentation is required to be submitted 6 weeks before the Meeting, along with a brief CV. These will be published in the Conference Proceedings. The abstract/paper/CV should be e-mailed to the Session Chair and to Victoria Roberts,
Publications Editor. For an example of a CV, please see a previous edition of the Conference Proceedings.
-
Presentations should be designed using PowerPoint and as landscape format/on-screen show. Slides should contain no more than 5 bullet points and use large font, able to be seen from the back of the auditorium. Use simple images with a basic colour scheme to enable easy viewing for the audience.
-
Always bring a back-up of your presentation with you and ensure your CD can be read by other PCs. Please let us know if your presentation is MAC rather than PC written.
For further advice or queries, please contact the BVZS Student Liaison Officer, the BVZS Secretary or the Session Organiser for that meeting (See BVZS website for details www.bvzs.org)
